About the Jeep Grand Cherokee L
The Grand Cherokee is, and has always been, a hugely popular vehicle, an absolutely iconic SUV. This popularity comes from the unbeatable versatility it offers, blending legendary Jeep capability with practicality and comfort for an outstanding everyday vehicle. The Grand Cherokee L is a way for Jeep to offer even more from the proven winning formula of the Grand Cherokee. What sets the two versions apart is the third row of seats that come with the L, expanding the seating capacity from five to seven. Fold the third row down, and the Grand Cherokee L offers about 10 cubic feet more cargo space than its two-row counterpart. Two potent engines are offered, and the available 4x4 system gives the Grand Cherokee L the benefits of decades of Jeep off-road engineering leadership. Inside, you’ll find a comfortable interior that’s packed with high-tech multimedia and driver assistance features. All reasons why the Grand Cherokee L is the last work in all-around usefulness.
What the Critics Say
"Comfort is a strong suit of the Grand Cherokee L. Its long wheelbase and optional air suspension create a cushy ride, and bumps in the road are absorbed before they make it to passengers inside. It does this without feeling floaty or losing its composure. The leather seats in our Summit test vehicle also proved impressive, with an available massage function in the front row and pleasing comfort in the second and third rows." – Edmunds
"The Jeep Grand Cherokee L has a rugged and upscale aesthetic, which is befitting of its personality. It’s a look that’s unmistakably Jeep. It looks more luxurious in the upper trims with fancier wheels and more chrome, and the Overland trim has a more brawny front fascia with tow hooks." – Kelley Blue Book
What’s New in the 2026
There have been a few changes to the Grand Cherokee L for 2026, but by far the biggest is the addition of the 2.0-liter Hurricane engine to the option list. While the V6 found in all trims of the Grand Cherokee L last year remains in the Laredo and Laredo X, the rest of the trim lineup gets this new and more powerful engine. The Laredo also now has the option of Quadra-Trac I® 4WD System, which was previously only available on higher trims. Lastly, there are three new paint colors to choose from: Steel Blue, Copper Shino, and Fathom Blue.
Jeep Grand Cherokee L Features
Capable Performance
The Grand Cherokee L comes standard with a 3.6-liter Pentastar™ V6 that makes 293 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Since the L is a bit bigger than the standard Grand Cherokee, some people want a bit more power, and for them, there is the available 2.0-liter Hurricane turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, producing 324 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. Both engines come with an advanced 8-speed automatic transmission and a choice of rear-wheel drive or Quadra-Trac ® 4-wheel drive. Both engines deliver the same towing capacity as well, a class-leading 6,200 pounds. And as good as the Grand Cherokee L is on the road, best-in-class available ground clearance, departure angle, and available ramp breakover angle all mean that it’s designed to be just as at home off-road.
Comfortable Interior
The popularity of the Grand Cherokee comes from the fact that it isn’t just great off-road, it also provides comfortable transportation for more day-to-day tasks. Standard features include things like 3-zone automatic climate control and an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. For those looking to upgrade their interior, there is a whole array of ways to do so, from a dual-pane sunroof to heated and quilted Palermo leather seats with massage. There is a choice of two different stereo upgrades: a 506-watt 9-speaker system and a 950-watt 19-speaker McIntosh Premium Audio system. Of course, the big advantage of the L can also be found on the interior, its third row of seats. Alternatively, you can fold the seats down and use the extra space for cargo, which works well with the available hands-free power liftgate.
Advanced Technology
Jeep has been making outstanding off-road vehicles for decades, and Grand Cherokee L buyers can take advantage of this fact in the form of available advanced drivetrain technology. The Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System lets you choose from five different drive modes, Auto, Sport, Rock, Snow, or Mud/Sand, just by turning a dial. Extra ground clearance for off-road driving, as well as extra comfort in any situation, is provided by the available Quadra-Lift® Air Suspension System. To help with traction, there are three different available 4WD systems: Quadra-Trac I®, Quadra-Trac II®, and Quadra-Drive® II with a rear electronic limited-slip differential. The amount of off-roading you plan on doing will determine which one is best for you. Inside, you’ll also find an available 12.3-inch touchscreen running Jeep’s excellent Uconnect® 5 infotainment operating system. There is even an available passenger touchscreen, so your traveling companion can make navigation adjustments or find some better music while you concentrate on driving.
