About the Dodge Durango
Dodge is proud of its muscle car heritage and tries to add a bit of muscle car to everything it produces. Engineers work tirelessly to push the limits of performance, style, and attitude. While it is also a highly practical three-row SUV, one look at the Durango and you can tell it’s built to be something different. The Durango is offered with three distinct engine choices, up to the hugely powerful supercharged Hellcat engine that churns out 710 horsepower. That’s right, this SUV with three rows of seats and lots of space for groceries can also hit 60 MPH from a dead stop in just 3.5 seconds. This no-compromise approach means you don’t have to choose between the excitement of a muscle car and the practicality of a three-row SUV when you drive a Dodge Durango.
What the Critics Say
“The Durango SRT, which is what we tested, is a testament to Dodge's commitment to performance. The engine is powerful, accelerating this 5,500-pound behemoth effortlessly to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds. Yet the Durango is also well mannered in everyday driving. Braking performance is strong and smooth. The transmission's shifts are also buttery smooth and don't feel the least bit abrupt in stop-and-go traffic.” - Edmunds
“In a segment full of exceedingly practical vehicles, the Dodge Durango stands out as the muscle car alternative to its three-row peers. Its styling invokes the popular Charger sedan, both in terms of its bulging fenders and its gaping grille. Impressive towing capability and a range of available V-8 engines further sets the Durango apart from its peers that are largely powered by four- or six-cylinder powerplants.” - MotorTrend
What’s New in the 2026
The only change to the popular Dodge Durango for the 2026 model year is the arrival of a new Blacktop Redline package for various different trim levels. With a next-generation model on the horizon and expected to arrive as soon as next year, this could be your final opportunity to experience all the advantages of this award-winning SUV. Dodge Durango Features
Muscle Car Performance
Today, even large three-row SUVs will often come with a four-cylinder engine as the standard powerplant. Since that wouldn’t be very “muscle car”, the Dodge Durango comes standard with a 3.6-liter Pentastar® V6 that produces 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. That’s a bit more pep than you’ll get from standard engines in competing SUVs but the optional powertrains give you even more. Move up to the 5.7-liter V8 and you’ll get 360 horsepower, 390 lb-ft of torque, and that ever-important muscle car feature – the sound of a V8 growl. At the top of the performance ladder is the Hellcat, a 710-horsepower version of the Durango that goes beyond the brand’s embrace of muscle cars and turns the Durango into a serious performance machine. In addition to the 6.2-liter Supercharged V8, you get six-piston high-performance Brembo brakes and a Bilstein® Active-Damping High-Performance Suspension. Stopping and handling might not be characteristics that muscle cars are known for, but they’re still critical for high-speed driving.
Incredible Practicality
If you were just looking for a muscle car, you would focus your attention on a Dodge Charger. The appeal of the Dodge Durango is that it offers muscle car performance alongside a huge helping of actual practicality. The base trim of the Durango comes with seating for seven and a massive 43.3 cubic feet of cargo space in the back. The second and third-row seats can all be folded down for a maximum of 85.1 cubic feet of space, a truly impressive feat. Thanks to the power liftgate, it’s also easy to access this cargo area and the seriously impressive 8,700-pound towing capacity means that you can take quite a lot with you wherever you go. All-wheel drive is either standard or available on every trim and there are brake options that can quickly rein in even the most powerful of Durango variants. Since a family vehicle isn’t really practical unless it’s also safe, Dodge includes numerous safety features as standard features like Electronic Stability Control, Electronic Roll Mitigation, rain-sensing wipers, and Blind Spot Monitoring.
First-Class Interior
A huge part of the appeal of the Dodge Durango is that it’s a muscle car that’s easy to live with every day. A spacious and comfortable interior features prominently in the appeal of the big SUV. The standard infotainment system is a 10.1-inch screen with Uconnect® 5 which adds wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ capability. The standard stereo is made by Alpine®, making the Durango one of a small number of mainstream vehicles with a name-brand stereo as standard equipment. The standard version features 6 speakers but a version with 9 is available as well. Just like horsepower, Dodge gives you the option for a huge number of speakers as well with an available 19-speaker Harman Kardon® system. Nappa leather, heated and ventilated seats, and a heated steering wheel are all available while heated seats come standard inside the Dodge Durango.
