Is Certified or Traditional Pre-Owned Better?

When you’re in the market for your next vehicle in the Great Lakes, you might consider going for a used vehicle option. There are a lot of different and excellent options out there if you decide to go with a used vehicle. However, there’s a term you might see that you don’t know. That term is “Certified Pre-Owned.” 

What exactly does this mean, and how does it differ from a traditional pre-owned car? Today, we’re going to break all of this down and discuss which option is best for your next purchase.

What Is Certified Pre-Owned?

When you’re looking for your next vehicle in Western Michigan, getting a used vehicle can be a cost-effective way to go. However, with the vehicle being pre-owned, wouldn’t it be nice to get some assurances? You want a vehicle that works and will last you for a bit, don’t you? 

Getting a vehicle that is certified pre-owned in Northern Shores means that you’re getting all of those assurances while still being able to purchase a vehicle at a good price.

What this means is that if a vehicle qualifies to be certified pre-owned on our lot, it goes through a 125-point inspection that runs the gamut of everything from appearance details to making sure all of the mechanical parts work as they should. Not only that, but you also get a 3-month/3,000-mile maximum care warranty and a 7-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty along with towing/roadside assistance.

What’s the Difference Between Certified Pre-Owned and Traditional Pre-Owned?

Simply put, the difference between a certified pre-owned and a traditional pre-owned vehicle in Northern Shores is that a certified pre-owned vehicle gets all of the above certifications done to ensure that you have a smooth ride. A traditional pre-owned doesn’t get the above treatment if they don’t meet these requirements:

• 2017-2022 vehicle with under 75,000 miles (CPO)
• 2012-2016 vehicle with less than 120,000 miles (CPO GO)
• 2017-2022 vehicle with 75,000-120,000 miles (CPO GO)

Just because a traditionally pre-owned vehicle may not be certified pre-owned doesn’t mean you’re not getting a quality vehicle. Our Hudsonville dealership inspects every vehicle that comes in; however, if they don’t meet this criteria, we cannot list them as certified pre-owned.

Does Being Pre-Owned Affect My Financing Options?

Whether it’s traditionally pre-owned or Certified Pre-Owned, you have all of the same financing options available to you that you would for a brand-new vehicle. Not only do all of our vehicles have the same financing options, but we offer a few opportunities to get pre-approved as well.

First, there’s our Finance Application. On our website, if you go to the Finance tab and click on “Finance Application,” there’s a full-blown application where you fill out all of your info, along with the amount you’re looking to get pre-approved for, and within a few hours, you can be pre-approved for whatever vehicle you’re looking to purchase. 

The other option is our no social security number option. This is a slightly shorter application where you don’t have to enter your social security number or date of birth. Like the longer application, you will find out within minutes if you’re pre-approved.

So what happens if you’re pre-approved? If you’re pre-approved, you get to spend less time at the dealership and get to hit the road faster than if you just walked into our dealership without it. 

Once you’re pre-approved, you’ll get a call from a member of our Coopersville sales team to schedule an appointment. Once you show up, all you have to do is spend about half an hour signing a handful of documents and going over any last-minute things with the sales rep before you take the keys and can drive off the same day!
